Project Details

Created landscape of residence rebuilt for LEED Certification: soil heavily compacted and existing yard overrun with ivy and weeds post-construction.

Highlights: Reused imported flat French roof tiles for front walkway, entry porch, back patio, and planter boxes. Hog wire fence screens adjacent public dog park. Fines used for pathway leading from front to back yards and for back sitting area tucked against new L-shaped stucco wall, which complements new home exterior. Front and back bubbling fountains attract many birds. Edible plantings feature vegetable boxes, fruit trees, and kitchen herb garden. Drought-tolerant and California native plants throughout property attract pollinators and other beneficial insects. Native grapevine covers front entry wall. Backyard native meadow maintained by string line trimming twice a year, then annually weeding and reseeding or plugging as needed. Overhanging city heritage oaks provide property with natural mulch.

Irrigation: Planted areas by drip, meadow by overhead MP rotators.

Native plants of interest: Beach and Woodland Strawberry, 'Roger's Red' Grape, Twinberry.

Maintenance: Tao Landscaping
