Revived landscape of classic post-WWII home with original front porch detail. Challenges included dying pine trees with their old stumps, roots, and years of pine needle build up. Property located on busy street and in spot exposed to strong winds from San Francisco Bay.
Highlights: Installed new lattice screen to complement front porch and drought-tolerant, mostly CA native plants, providing both curb appeal and private space shielded from traffic and breezy conditions. Removed stumps, improved soil, created mounded planting beds, planted larger evergreen shrubs and small trees closer to street for screening. Created inner courtyard patio, added permeable flagstone and fines walkway, small rain garden for corner downspout for helping spread roof runoff into planting beds. Improved drainage around home's foundation.
